About Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars was born and raised in Hawaii, with the real name of Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985. Music was in his blood, as Bruno's family had a rich musical tradition. In fact, growing up Bruno performed concerts with his family band, entertaining tourist to Hawaii. With a head start in the music industry, the singer-songwriter and music producer moved to Los Angeles when he finished high school. Bruno Mars scored a solo deal with Motown Records, however, the deal was not great for the young musician and the label had trouble marketing their newest star.

Instead, Bruno Mars switched gears as a producer. That's right, Bruno started his professional career in music as a producer. He produced songs for other artists as part of the Smeezingtons production team, alongside Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. As part of the group he also found a way to showcase his melodic voice. The Smeezingtons have worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including working on B.o.B.'s "Nothin' On You" and "Right Round" by Flo Rida. Bruno Mars and the Smeezingtons have also worked with Justin Bieber, Kid Cudi, Matisyahu and much more. After leaving Motown Records he moved on to Atlantic Records, and that's where his story really picks up steam. Bruno first started getting the attention of the mainstream for his melodic backup vocals on "Nothin on You" as well as Travie McCoy's "Billionaire."

In October of 2010, he released his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans and Bruno's place among the stars of music was cemented. The album exploded onto the music scene, reaching as high as #3 on the Billboard charts. Featuring the radio hits "Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade," the album was one of the biggest hits of 2010. The album Doo-Wops & Hooligans was nominated for seven Grammy's and Bruno Mars took home the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance award. The New York Times called it "an effortless, fantastically polyglot record that shows him to be a careful study across a range of pop song-craft." Mars then dropped Unorthodox Jukebox two years later with hits such as "Uptown Funk." 24K Magic is his third album, dropping in late 2016. Hits such as "24K Magic" and "That's What I Like" made this album a success in Mars' pop-funk realm.
