The Meat Dress
Lady Gaga attended the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards wearing a meat dress fashioned from swatches of raw beef. Using her podium as the first woman to receive two nominations for video of the year, Gaga commented that she was standing up for her beliefs which, apparently, do not include animal rights. The meat dress has since been cured and preserved at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Lady Gaga showed up on the red carpet at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards as her male alter-ego Jo Calderone, a cigarette-smoking, beer -swigging mechanic from Sicily. Gaga stayed in character the whole night even delivering a lengthy opening monologue where Calderone laments Gaga’s particular peculiarities before performing a version of "You and I" with Queen’s Brian May on guitar.

Sleeping with Gaga
Lady Gaga napped for an hour inside a giant, windowed perfume bottle at New York’s Guggenheim during a masquerade ball for the launch of her new perfume FAME where people milled about and occasionally reached through the window to touch her prone figure. When she woke she peed in a champagne bucket and got a tattoo of a winged cherub on the back of her head.

The Abramović Method Practiced by Lady Gaga
Prior to the release of ARTPOP, Lady Gaga surfaced in a two minute and nineteen second video where she roamed through the woods butt naked and hugged a crystal as part of a series of exercises designed to help her experience the present moment and kick her 15 joints-a-day ganja habit. The short film doubled as a promo video for long duration performance artist Marina Abramović’s Kickstarter campaign which included “hugs” for $1 backers.

Lady Gaga rocked a grill of giant, scary teeth at the first ever YouTube Music Awards. She seemed to be channeling the Reverend Henry Kane from the Poltergeist film series, but for no apparent reason. Gaga followed her toothy entrance by debuting a new song, “Dope.” Dressed in the decidedly anti-Gaga attire of a trucker hat and buttoned flannel, she played the piano and wailed “I need you more than dope” over and over again while crying, strangely. The LA Times reported that over 4,000 online viewers fled the YouTube Video Awards following her weird performance.
