Gregg Allman is an American rock singer, who helped form The Allman Brothers Band. He not only plays the keyboard and guitar, but is also a singer-songwriter. The band, which was successful in the early 70’s, led Allman to a solo career. Rolling Stone listed him as number 70 for the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” In 2006 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Allman continues to produce rock, blues, and country music and put on some fantastic concerts.

Gregg Allman was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1947. Both he and his older brother Duane Allman had a love for music at a very young age. He had originally planned to go to school to become a dental surgeon, but ended up following Duane, who had dropped out of school, to become a musician. The Allman brothers performed in a few bands together before moving to Los Angeles and signing with Liberty Records. In 1969 the Allman Brothers Band was formed with the two brothers and three other musicians.

When Allman’s brother died in 1971, he started his solo career. He released his first album, Laid Back, in 1973. It included his own work as well as redone Allman Brothers’ songs. His song, Midnight Rider, was number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. His second solo album, I’m No Angel, sold 500,000 copies, making the album certified Gold. His third album, Low Country Blues, was nominated as the Best Blues Album during the 2011 Grammy Awards.

Gregg Allman is currently on his summer tour and also has a fall tour coming up. He will also be on tour for the month of August and the beginning of September with the Allman Brothers Band. Tickets are on sale for both tours now!
