About Steely Dan

Though Steely Dan weren't officially formed until 1972, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen met four years prior in New York. The duo experimented with various bands before forming their own band -- Steely Dan. As a band, they met success and unsuccess, went their separate ways and released solo albums, but eventually came back together again.

Steely Dan's debut album, Can't Buy a Thrill, was released in 1972. Immediately, Steely Dan became a success, as "Do it Again," and "Reelin' in the Years" were top 20 hits. Steely Dan's third album, Pretzel Logic, contained the band's biggest hit -- "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," which climbed to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974. The duo retired from live performances following their supporting tour for Pretzel Logic and remained a studio-based band. The band released seven albums between 1972 and 1980, before disbanding in 1981. Steely Dan reunited in 1993, and the two were back on tour for the first time in almost twenty years, though they didn't release a new studio album until 2000 -- when the band released Two Against Nature. About two years later, Steely Dan released their most-recent album, Everything Must Go. Now in 2014, Steely Dan are set to hit the road once again!
