Garth Brooks holds a high title in the realm of country music, but he started out small just like any other. More focused on athletics as a child, Garth Brooks attended Oklahoma State University on a partial athletic scholarship, and occasionally would sing in local clubs in Oklahoma. It wasn't until after Garth Brooks graduated with an advertising degree that he decided to take a stab at country music. Discouraged by his first attempt in Nashville, he remained in Oklahoma and married his college girlfriend. In 1987, the couple made the move to Nashville, and Garth Brooks began his work to get noticed in the industry. Eventually, an executive at Capitol Records heard him and he was signed to the label in 1988. His self-titled, debut album was released in 1989, with its first single, "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)" landing a top spot in the Country Top Ten and crossed over into the pop album charts as well.
Garth Brooks produced a number of hit singles from his first album, including "If Tomorrow Never Comes" and "The Dance" landing at No 1. His second effort, No Fences, was released in 1990 and remained at the top of the country charts for twenty-three weeks and sold over ten million copies by 1993. At this point in his career, Garth Brooks was selling out stadium shows and producing No 1 hits like no other. His third album, Ropin' The Wind, was the first country record to reside at the top of the pop charts, and gained just as much success as his previous efforts. Garth Brooks was quickly going multi-platinum, but his superstar status seemed to be on a slow decline when his following albums did not meet the same success he had been experiencing. Determined to keep his fans captivated, Garth Brooks released his seventh album, Sevens, in late 1997 and it immediately shot up to No. 1 and went multi-platinum in no time.
By 2000, Garth Brooks was keeping a low profile, and news of divorce with his wife surfaced. By 2001, it was no secret that Brooks decided it was time to retire and diverted his attention from country music star to fatherhood. His album Scarecrow debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard pop and country charts, and it would be over a decade until Garth Brook resurfaced and performed on stage again. Brooks came back in 2014 with Man Against Machine. Two years later, he dropped a Christmas album with current wife Trisha Yearwood titled Christmas Together, and he then dropped Gunslinger shortly after in 2016. His "Garth Brooks World Tour" keeps extending. Of course now he's the talk of country music, and tickets for Garth Brooks shows are in huge demand around the world.
