About Charlie Wilson

Hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Charlie Wilson was raised the son of a minister and began his singing career in his local church choir. His first major success came with The Gap Band, popularizing songs like "Party Train" and "Yearning for Your Love" with his brothers Robert and Ronnie. The family band helped define funk music, and their tunes became some of the most sampled in the history of music. The Gap Band recorded fifteen albums before retiring in 2010. Charlie Wilson is good friends with Snoop Dogg, who gave him the famous nickname “Uncle Charlie.”

Charlie Wilson released his first solo album, Bridging the Gap, in 2000, and “Without You” was his first No. 1 Billboard Urban Adult Contemporary single. After teaming up with Jive Records, Wilson produced Charlie, Last Name Wilson with such artists as Justin Timberlake, R. Kelly, and will.i.am. Ever since, Wilson has topped charts and won a plethora of awards for his R&B music. Even Kanye West has included him on collaborations, appearing on several My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Yeezus tracks.
