Formed in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors, the Golden State Warriors are one of the oldest franchises in the NBA. The Warriors participated in the Basketball Association of America between 1946-49, and became apart of the National Basketball Association in 1949, when the BAA and NBL merged to create the NBA.
The Warriors played in Philadelphia between 1946 and 1962, winning the 1947 BAA championship and 1956 NBA championship while in Philadelphia. The franchise relocated to San Francisco prior to the 1962-63 season, and were known as the San Francisco Warriors until 1971, when the franchise again changed its name for a third and final time, to the Golden State Warriors.
Though Golden State went through over a decade of futility, the Warriors are now one of the most exciting teams in the NBA once again, led by Stephen Curry and Andrew Bogut. With a bright future and an exciting roster, Golden State fans will want to head out to the ORACLE Arena this season to watch the Warriors' fast-paced offense in person!
