Jason Derulo is an American rapper who got his start by writing songs for artists like Diddy, Lil Wayne, Danity Kane, and Sean Kingston. After winning the grand prize on Showtime at the Apollo in 2006, Derulo's talent was recognized and he was signed to Warner Bros. Records. In 2009, Jason Derulo released "Whatcha Say," his first single, which hit number one later that year. His second single, "In My Head," met with equal success as it quickly reached number five. Jason Derulo's self-titled debut album launched at number eleven on the U.S. Billboard 200, and he promoted it alongside Lady Gaga as he opened for her on The Monster Ball Tour. In 2011, Derulo released his second album Future History with the singles "Don't Wanna Go Home," "It Girl," "Breathing," and "Fight for You."
Having achieved early success, Derulo attracted many partnerships. In 2011, he recorded "Together" with singer Demi Lovato, and in 2012, the rapper appeared on the eleventh season of American Idol, holding a contest that allowed fans to submit lyrics to complete his song "Undefeated." Derulo also partnered with Kelly Rowland on the Australian show Everybody Dance Now after he recovered from a broken vertebrae, which prevented him from completing his Future History Tour. In 2013, Derulo was featured on Jordin Sparks' single "Before It Breaks" and was a musical guest on Dancing with the Stars.
