Yo Gabba Gabba! is one of the most exciting and popular new phenomena in children's entertainment. And unlike the vast majority of children's programming, it was not developed by a network. It was created by Christian Jacobs, lead singer of the band The Aquabats, and Scott Schultz, of the band Majestic. The two men, from Southern California, had no experience writing television shows, but rather decided to pursue the project due to a mutual feeling that there weren't enough good children's shows. They both wanted to create an educational and entertaining show that featured popular performers. After managing to get some material circulating on the internet, they got the attention of Nickelodeon, and the show was picked up to begin airing on August 20, 2007.
The show's narrator, "DJ Lance Rock," or Lance Robertson, is a Los Angeles musician, DJ, and actor. He began his musical career in St. Louis, Missouri in the electronic band My Other Self in the 1990s. After moving to LA and becoming well-known on the indie rock scene with his band, The Raymakers, he met Scott Schultz and began playing gigs with Majestic. Later, when Schultz teamed up with Christian Jacobs, they asked Lance to serve as the host of Yo Gabba Gabba!
