Dwight Yoakam, like many country artists, started his career in Nashville but it didn't take off until he moved to Los Angeles. There he played his Honky Tonk style music in various rock clubs. He is credited for having a diverse audience from mixing his country music with rock audiences. From there Yoakam's musical career took off. He became very popular in the 1980s and was even stated to be Johnny Cash's favorite country singer. In 1993 Yoakam won a Grammy for "Best Male Country Vocal Performance," for his song "Ain't That Lonely Yet." He is still currently producing albums; his most recent 3 Pears, was released in 2012. Yoakam also continues to act in a variety of films.
