Philly-born funk/soul brother Frankie Beverly came onto the scene in the late 60s early 70s with a band called Raw Soul, later renamed Maze on the recommendation of soul legend Marvin Gaye who took them on tour as his opening act. The Frankie Beverly and Maze concert schedule with Marvin Gaye was instrumental in the group’s development.
Frankie Beverly and Maze produced many popular singles including Joy and Pain, Lady of Magic, Happy Feelin’s, While I’m Alone, We Need Love to Live, Running Away and Before I Let Go, among others, and the band’s eight-night, sold-out stand at the UK’s Hammersmith Odeon is legendary.
Frankie Beverly and Maze’s Twilight plays on Bounce FM in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Maze closes the Essence Music Festival every year alongside such hip hop luminaries as Kanye West and Grand Master Flash.
