About Katy Perry

Described as "fierce," "fiesty," and "provocative," Perry has drawn praise and criticism from her arrival on the world music scene. From her release of the controversial "I Kissed a Girl" to the stripped down ballad "Thinking of You" this pop princess has made her mark on the music industry with her unique style.

Kathryn Elizabeth Hudson was born to two Pentacostal pastors in Santa Barbara, CA and often sang in church. She was not allowed to listen to secular music, much like Kings of Leon. According to Perry, "My dad would give me ten dollars, which is a lot of money when you're nine, to sing at church, on tables at restaurants, at family functions--just about anywhere." A free Katy Perry concert? Lucky listeners...

It was at a sleepover as a child where Katy Perry would find her corruption in the form of a Queen record. At 15, Katy moved to Nashville and worked with some top professional songwriters, including Glen Ballard. Once Capitol Music caught wind of her voice in 2007, they offered her a contract. Down the long hard road to fame, outrageous Katy Perry concerts caught the attention of stars including Madonna, who was quoted saying that a song off Perry's 2007 EP was her favorite that year. Perry has cited Madonna as one of her major influences, along with Freddy Mercury.

Katy Perry albums have been everything fans have wanted in more. Teenage Dream and Prism were both multi-platinum albums, and she'll look to continue that streak when Witness drops in June. Katy Perry fans have been awaiting this album and tour since her epic Super Bowl half time performance, so we will all "Witness" what she has been working on.
