About Sunday in the Park with George
Sunday in the Park with George is a Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Pulitzer Prize-winning musical. The star is a big Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal. It is opening February 11th, 2017 for previews and February 23rd for official opening. However, it is only open at Hudson Theatre until April 23rd, 2017, a ten-week run. This is following its brief 2016 run that was a success, marking the second big revival for the musical.
Sunday in the Park with George is about painter Georges Seurat the months leading up to the completion of his famous painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte." He is so overwhelmed and concentrated on finishing the painting that he neglects the other aspects of his life. This includes his lover Dot, his fellow artists, and the French bourgeoisie. Seurat doesn't realize that this alienation will have side effects over the course of the next 100 years. His story unfolds focusing on the painting's completion.
