About Cheyenne Frontier Days
Cheyenne Frontier Days is a rodeo celebration like no other. The event dates all the way back to 1897, and now grown in to a ten day festival in Cheyenne, WY, that attracts cowboys and cowgirls from across the country. The rodeo festival draws almost 200,000 fans a year and is so popular that people book hotels in Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska in order to attend the event.
For a week and a half, Cheyenne is the rodeo capital of the world. The event kicks off with the annual walking of the steers and a Cinch shootout on Day 1. After that there is PRCA sanctioned rodeo tournaments by day and championship bull riding by night. Frontier Park is constantly packed with fans ready to see ten days of classic competition. There are pancake breakfasts every morning which is a big hit with all the fans, and on the alternate days, the city of Cheyenne hosts a parade for families to attend. Other attractions include the Native American Village that is free and open daily. Here visitors can experience the traditional Native American culture including pow wows and demonstrations. Not far from the village is Wild Horse Gulch. This is also a free area where visitors can get a feel for the Old West and its traditions.
By night, the adult crowd is ready to hit the bars that the city of Cheyenne has to offer. After the night session of championship bull riding, there are plenty of country western themed bars and restaurants which are always a big hit with the tourists who travel long distances to the event. There are hotels and motels in the area, but RVs are another means of transportation that most people use to get to the event.
