Ray LaMontagne Tour Schedule

It seems today like many musicians tend to fall under the blanket term "folk" without really getting to the heart of the genre. Folk music is, by definition, a story-telling genre. It has history, heart and soul -- and that's the type of music that Ray Lamontagne produces.

Folk artist Ray Lamontagne was born in Nashua, New Hampshire to a nomadic mother and abusive musician father who eventually abandoned the family. Having associated music to that violence, LaMontagne kept his distance from the music world during his childhood. His inspiration would come in the form of a Stephen Stills (of Crosby, Stills & Nash) song "Treetop Flyer" one morning while waking up to his shoe factory job in Maine. He decided to quit his job and become a singer-songwriter right then.

Ray LaMontagne tickets would go on sale for various small tours throughout the country in 1999, and LaMontagne sent a demo tape to a handfull of venues. By word of mouth the musician was eventually signed to RCA records.

Ray Lamontagne's first studio album, Trouble, was recorded in two weeks in 2004. The album, and the following Ray Lamontagne tour, increased interest in the artist and Ray Lamontagne tickets went on sale for Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo that year. His second studio album, Till The Sun Turned Black, peaked at number 28 on the Billboard 200. Songs from the album were featured on the TV shows "One Tree Hill," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," and "Bones" and the movies "Away From Her" and "27 Dresses." His third album and most popular to date, Gossip in the Grain, debuted at number 3 on Billboard charts and launched a massive Ray Lamontagne tour in 2008 with Ray Lamontagne tickets selling out for most dates.

Ray LaMontagne's 2010 effort, God Willin' & The Creek Don't Rise, was released in August 2010. According to LaMontagne, "We cut it in a giant old barn on my property in Massachusetts that was built in 1811," LaMontagne says. "Every morning we had breakfast at a place called Elmer's in Ashfield and then drove a mile to the barn and stated working around 11:30 a.m. The band never heard the songs until the day we cut them, but we always got two songs a day."
