About Lionel Richie

Lionel Richie is a man of many talents. He is an American singer-songwriter, musician, record producer and actor.

Richie's most recent solo album title comes from the town he grew up in, Tuskegee, Alabama. He went to school there and formed a succession of R&B groups in the mid-1960s. After school he became and singer and saxophonist with the Commodores. Richie played with them for fifteen years while writing songs for other artists such as Kenny Rogers. His solo career launched in 1982 with his self-titled debut album which contained three hit singles. The album sold over 4 million copies. This was just the beginning of Lionel Richie's way to the top.

Richie's second album, Can't Slow Down, sold over 8 million copies and won two Grammy Awards including Album of the Year. This album contained the song "All Night Long" which Richie performed at the closing ceremony of the XXIII Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He continued to produce several more Top 10 hits over the years. He has continued to perform fan favorites throughout the years and came out with his most recent album Tuskegee in 2012.
