About Lewis Black

Lewis Black, comedian, actor and author, was first introduced to a national audience from The Daily Show on Comedy Central, with his segment "Back in Black" among the most popular on the show. Lewis Black was born in Washington DC and was raised in Silver Spring Maryland. He received a degree in drama from the University of North Carolina and the early part of his career focused on theater. He turned from drama to comedy and eventually landed on The Daily Show. The relationship between Black and Comedy Central flourished, and he taped several comedy specials for the network, including Last Laugh with Lewis Black. He was also the host of his own show, Lewis Black's The Root of All Evil. In 2001 he was awarded the Best Male Stand-Up at the America Comedy Awards.

In 2000, he released The White Album for Stan Up! Records and went on to release eight more comedy albums. He's been awarded two Grammy Awards, on for his show at The Carnegie Hall Performance and again for Stark Raving Black. In addition to his work with Comedy Central, Lewis Black has a relationship with HBO, taping Black On Broadway as well as Red, White and Screwed. In 2012, he performed 8 sell-out shows at Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway, the famous theater that is now home to Hamilton. in 2015, he was the notable voice of Anger in the film Inside Out.
