Plot Synopsis:

The story of Jersey Boys is divided into four sections, one for each season, each narrated by a different band member. The first section, Spring, is narrated by Tommy DeVito. The show opens with a performance of the 2000 pop-rap song "Ces soirees-la," which Tommy explains is a cover of the Four Seasons' "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)." He begins to tell the story of the origins of the band, telling of how he starts out in a group called "The Variety Band" with his brother, Nick DeVito, and friend Nick Massi. He eventually discovers a teenaged Frankie Castelluccio (later changing his last name to Valli), and takes him under his wing. As Tommy runs into trouble and is in and out of prison, Tommy and Frankie develop a relationship with the mob, and Frankie meets and marries Mary DelGado. The band still struggles with finding its identity, but one day a friend mentions a talented singer-songwriter who he thinks would make a good addition to the band: Bob Gaudio.

The second section, Summer, is narrated by Bob Gaudio. He tells of how he meets the other boys and as immediately impressed by Frankie's voice. As the boys begin to collaborate on Bob's songs, they negotiate a partnership and are signed to a contract to sing backup. When producer Bob Crewe insists that the band find an identity, they finally name themselves The Four Seasons and come out with a few hit songs, including "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," and "Walk Like a Man." As the band's success forces them to tour, Frankie's marriage to Mary becomes severely strained. One day after a concert, the band is approached by a loan shark demanding a substantial sum of money that he claims Tommy owes him.

The Fall section is narrated by Nick Massi. He explains that Bob was so focused on the band's musical success that he couldn't see how much trouble the band had been in. Tommy had been racking up debts for some time, and the group's financial trouble strains the relationship between Tommy and Bob. Nick sees that Tommy's jealousy of Frankie has put a strain on their relationship as well. When Tommy's debt becomes too much, Frankie reaches out to the mob for help. The agreement is that Tommy must stay in Las Vegas where he can be watched, so the band tours as a trio, but Nick becomes increasingly disillusioned.

The final section, Winter, is narrated by Frankie. He says that although he feels grateful to Tommy for all that he'd done for him, he realizes the relationship was flawed and he understands why the group has had such hard times. After Frankie and Bob find new talent to keep the band a foursome, Bob reveals he has never really wanted to be onstage and thinks Frankie should be a solo star. Frankie struggles with a strained relationship with his daughter, Francine, and his girlfriend, Lorraine. Despite his personal troubles, he finds continued success with Bob's songs, including the hit "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."
