Like the Grateful Dead, most people associate Phish with drugs. In fact, substances are easier to come by in the parking lots of Phish shows than tie-dyed shirts. As journalist Scott Waldman says, “While most of the itinerant herd travels with Phish for the music, every show is essentially an open-air drug market.” However, what newer Phish fans may not know is that lead singer Trey Anastasio is a recovered alcoholic/addict and is currently seven years sober. In December 2006, Anasta... [Read more]

If you're like me, you often wonder why certain artists and their respective genres of music are so consistently popular. What is that special something that unites fans? Here are a few of my theories concerning Bob Seger and the like: 1.) ‘Merica – Artists like Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, and Tom Petty have long played the nationalism card when it comes to fame. “Heartland Rock” is the official label of their genre of music, characterized by simple melodies and lyrical concer... This morning arrived with a big announcement – the Who finally released dates for their 2015 tour, and it may be the last chance to see them live. Roger Daltrey recently told Rolling Stone, “[It] will be the last big tour…We intend to go on doing music until we drop, but we have to be realistic about our age. The touring is incredibly grinding on the body and we have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. This will be the last old-fashioned, big tour.” Even more good news for some fans (possibly ... Who is Melissa Etheridge ? Well, I’m not a super-fan, but I do like her music and think she’s pretty rad, so I’ll try to help you out. A Berklee College of Music dropout, this singer/songwriter/guitarist got her start in Los Angeles in the 80s like a lot of rock artists do - by playing in bars. Etheridge released three albums from 1988 to 1992, and broke into the mainstream scene with her fourth album in 1993, allowing her to become one of the most popular rock artists of the 90s. She won two G... [Read more]

1.) Get some comfy sweaters – Sweaters are necessary as the temperatures start to drop. Whether you rejoice in their versatility or denounce them for their abuse by hipsters, sweaters are undeniably useful. So, do some shopping. Thrift stores are great for both traditional and eccentric finds. Grab some pullovers every color of the rainbow for work; for those of you rocking the Cosby sweater this fall, more power to you. 2.) Read Gothic literature – Classics like Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and ... [Read more]

Former Nickelodeon actress turned pop star, Ariana Grande, has been a hot topic lately. This young woman has quickly risen to fame due to her cute face and her ridiculously good singing voice that has the ability to do crazy high-pitched runs. (People have even been comparing her to Mariah Carey!) Ariana performed at the iHeartRadio Music Festival this weekend, including an impressive duo performance with Nicki Minaj of their song “Bang Bang," and tickets are on sale for her first headlining tou... Although the singer-songwriter is most famous for overplayed radio hits like “Jack and Diane” and “Pink Houses,” John Mellencamp (formerly John Cougar Mellencamp [formerly Johnny Cougar]) also has quite a few other impressive accomplishments under his music belt (which is also equally impressive, including 13 Grammy nominations, 22 Top 40 hits, and over 40 million albums sold). Watch out James Franco, here comes another modern-day Renaissance man! 1.) Farm Aid – As ... [Read more]
