NCAA Football Goes Down to the Wire

The college football season is over and the LSU football team beat the Ohio State Buckeyes in the BCS championship game. It was a terrific game played in the Tigers' backyard at the Louisiana Superdome, and it was deja vu for OSU as they lost a second consecutive national championship game.

The final AP Top 5 for the 2007-2008 college football season was:

  1. LSU Tigers
  2. Georgia Bulldogs
  3. USC Trojans
  4. Missouri Tigers
  5. Ohio State Buckeyes

Teams are already gearing up for next season, with West Virginia, Boston College and Kansas looking to build on impressive seasons. The Arizona Sun Devils and Oregon Ducks will also be hoping to enhance their reputations further and compete for the national title.

And so, for another year, the Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Rose Bowl and other college bowl games are over. But rest assured, when next season rolls around, you can get your college football tickets right here.

College Football chatter

How long with the BCS system last?

Since its inception in 1998, every year the Bowl Championship System (BCS) creates a ton of controversy. Nobody seems completely satisfied with the way the ranking are ultimately decided. Critics have pointed to the unfair advantage it gives to certain conferences at the expense of others, meaning teams in some conferences can go undefeated with no chance of becoming a national championion. Utah's 2004 performance was a prime example of how this disparity may have prevented a team from ultimately receiving its due. Some have called for a shortened playoff system where bowl winners would face off to try to establish a true winner. What do you think? Let us know on pluggedin.ticketliquidator.com.

Great Quarterbacks - Terrible Names

It is quite hard these days to sit through a college football game without chuckling once or twice about the crazy names some of the leading QBs have. Take Chris Smelley for example, of the South Carolina Gamecocks. Or John David Booty of the Trojans. If either of these go up against Casey Dick of Arkansas or Brandon Cox of Auburn, its amazing the announcers are able to keep from making at least a little quip about it. This is hardly a new phenomenon though. Some of the greatest players of all time have some of the world's worst names. Take Dick Butkus for example, one of the toughest defenders of all time. Perhaps there is a correlation. I'm sure all these great athletes were teased about their names growing up, and perhaps they channeled their anger on the field. Whatever the case, college football fans sure are lucky to have such a talented crop of college quarterbacks out there this season.
