About the Winter Classic
The Winter Classic has been one of the highlights of the NHL season ever since its inception in 2008. The outdoor hockey game, that usually takes place around the New Year, has been a big hit with fans and garnered more excitement towards the NHL. The venues for the Winter Classic are usually famous baseball or football stadiums and the list includes Wrigley Field, Fenway Park and Gillette Stadium. Another tradition added to the game is the "Old Timers" game that takes place the day before. Past legends from the teams participating play a scrimmage for the enjoyment of the fans and it has been a big hit. The visiting team has a 6-2 record in these games, including an easy 5-1 win for the Montreal Canadiens over the Boston Bruins last year at Fenway Park.
