Rock This Country Tour

Shania Twain's 2015 summer tour kicks off in Seatle on June 5 and hits almost 50 cities in the United States and Canada, her home country. And make no mistake, this is going to be a fantastic kickoff for the star. "I just feel like I'm ready to hang my hat up in that regard. I just really want to go out with a bang," Twain said on Good Morning America. She also said she is working on a new album, set to come out in time for her 50th birthday.

About Shania Twain

Shania was born in Windsor, Ontario as Eilleen Regina Edwards. Her parents divorced when she was only two years old and her mother Sharon later married Jerry Twain, an Ojibway Indian, who adopted her and her two sisters and legally changed their last name to Twain. Sharon and Jerry had a son together and also adopted Jerry’s nephew. To help her parents make ends meet, when Eilleen was 8 she began singing in bars. At 13 she landed a performance on The Tommy Hunter Show on CBS and in high school she sang with a Top 40 cover band called Longshot. After the downfall of Longshot Eilleen joined another cover band called Flirt and performed all over Ontario. She was noticed by a DJ from Toronto, Stan Campbell, who would later bring her to Nashville to record demos in the studio. Here she also met country singer Mary Bailey who believed in Twain’s ability and thought she could be a star.

Twain lost both of her parents in a car accident when she was just 21. She quickly became the head of household, taking on the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings. Three years later, when they were all old enough to move out on their own, she set her sights on Nashville. She dropped Eilleen and legally changed her name to Shania, which is said to be an Ojibway name meaning “I’m on my way.” She signed a deal with Mercury Nashville Records and the chain of events that followed quickly made her the superstar we all know and love today.

During her career, Shania has won five Grammy Awards, 27 BMI Songwriter awards and has sold over 75 million albums worldwide. Three of her albums have been certified Diamond and she was ranked 72nd on Billboard’s “Artists of the decade” list from 2000 - 2010. Shania’s most successful album, Come On Over, which brought us hit single “You’re Still the One,” is the best-selling album of all time by a female artist. In 2011 she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Fans lucky enough to score Shania Twain Tickets will be heading to Las Vegas to see her perform live!

Fun Fact: Shania originally wanted to be a rock singer and not a country star.
