Do you like pop rock music? You should check out the band R5! Formed in Los Angeles, California in 2009, the band gets its name from the first initial of four of its members (Ross, Riker, Rocky, and Rydel Lynch), and the last initial of another (Ellington Ratliff). They self-released an EP titled Ready Set Rock in 2010, before being signed to Hollywood Records in 2012. Their second EP, Loud, featured the lead single title track, an upbeat, catchy song that declares "Shout it from the rooftops." In September 2013, R5 released their first full length album whose lead single, "Pass Me By," and second single, "(I Can’t) Forget About You," were both infectious and well-received. Their new EP titled Heart Made Up on You was released in 2014. R5 also has an upcoming album set to be released September 30th.
R5 has been heavily compared to the band One Direction, and it’s hard to argue with that. 5 Seconds of Summer will also be competing with R5 for the hearts of teenagers everywhere. Their upbeat sounds of young male vocalists are very similar, yet compelling! So, if you like One Direction, you’ll love R5! The band wanted to make music "perfect for playing in the car" on "summer nights, with the top down, cruising down the highway and cranking the music up," they say. While the band defines themselves by their fun, fast-paced music, they also have a slower love song titled "One Last Dance." The members of R5 surely understand that they are playing primarily for a young audience. Ross Lynch has even had lead roles in Disney Channel productions.
