About Newsboys

Currently, Newsboys consists of lead vocalist Michael Tait formerly of DC Talk, keyboardist and bassist Jeff Frankenstein, guitarist Jody Davis, and percussionist Duncan Phillips. Newsboys was formed in 1985 by Peter Furler and George Perdikis in Australia, but the group has seen many line-up changes over the years. Newsboys weren't widely recognized in the Christian music scene until the release of their 1992 album, Not Ashamed. Their single "Shine" won the 1995 Dove Award for "Rock Recorded Song of the Year," and CCM Magazine listed the song in the top ten of the 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music.

The band rose in success through the late '90s and '00s and has even recorded tracks for various movies. In 2002 they recorded the track "In the Belly of a Whale" for Jonah: A Veggie Tales Movie, and in 2008, they recorded "Yo Ho Hero" for The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie. In 2011, their song "City to City" was featured in the trailer for the Disney Pixar movie, Cars 2.
