Officially called the Philharmonic-Symphony Society of New York, the present day New York Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the country’s Big Five Orchestras alongside the Boston and Chicago Symphony Orchestras and the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras. Based out of Avery Fisher Hall in New York’s prestigious Lincoln Center, New York Philharmonic tickets give fans the chance to see the country’s oldest continuing orchestra performing a vast array of symphonic works.
Since its inception in 1842, there have been over 14,000 NY Philharmonic concerts performed. The NY Philharmonic schedule is literally overflowing with opportunities to see them in New York, at Lincoln Center and at the famous NY Philharmonic Central Park performances. In 2008, the orchestra made its famous debut in Pyongyang, North Korea in a startling gesture of culture diplomacy.
As the key audience of the Philharmonic, NY was recently treated to not one but two of ground-breaking composer Philip Glass’ works, his first works performed by them in a career spanning over 50 years. New Yorkers and visitors lucky enough to witness Glass’ Koyaanisqatsi and Satyagraha were floored by the technical precision and flawlessness of the NY Philharmonic company. You will be too.
