About John Mellencamp

First setting foot on the roots rock scene back in 1970s Indiana, John Mellencamp, who was born a frail baby with a mild form of spina bifida, would grow up to be one of the worlds strongest and most prevalent heartland rockers. In a flash, John Mellencamp went from college band rookie, to overseas hit. Having been discovered by Rod Stewart's manager Billy Gaff, the singer-songwriter was shipped to London where he produced his first hit "I Need a Lover."

Among the mounting number of heartland rockers trying to burst onto the scene, Gaff had the highest hopes for Mellencamp, who then took on the nickname "John Cougar," during the release of his first mainstream album "The Kid Inside." It was, however, the release of his breakthrough album "American Fool" with the single "Hurts So Good" and the staple "Jack and Diane" that would solidify Mellencamp to rock stardom. Ever since then John Mellencamp has been the go-to artist to blast in pick up trucks, sedans, luxury cruisers, boats, the backyard bbq during the warmers months and by the fire during the winter.
