About Goo Goo Dolls

Their first three albums, Goo Goo Dolls (1987), Jed (1989), and Hold Me Up (1990) were criticized for sounding too much like The Replacements. In the fourth album, Superstar Car Wash (1993), the band developed more of a unique sound with the single "We Are the Push" getting considerable air-time on independent and college based radio. In 1995, the original drummer, George Tutuska, was kicked out of the band due to disputes over royalties and was replaced by Mike Malinin who has been the drummer ever since.

With the release of its fifth album, A Boy Named Goo (1995) the Goo Goo Dolls earned a spot in mainstream music, with the single "Name" boosting the album to double-platinum success. Then, in 1998, the band was commissioned to write a song for the movie "City of Angels" starring Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. The result was "Iris" and the song was an instant hit, reigning supreme at No. 1 on the Billboard charts for 18 consecutive weeks, creating a record that still stands today. The song was included on the band's sixth album, Dizzy Up the Girl (1998), and then, the Goo Goo Dolls released Gutterflower (2002), Let Love In (2006), and Something for the Rest of Us (2010). The band dropped Magnetic in 2013. Then, 2016 saw their first album in three years, Boxes.

Did you know? Rzeznik owns about 10 pairs of leather pants. Before co-founding the Goo Goo Dolls, he held a variety of odd jobs including being a plumber, bartender, and hot dog vender.
