Forbidden Broadway Information

About the Show:

Forbidden Broadway is a satirical musical revue that parodies the popular Broadway shows of the day. Written by Gerard Alessandrini, the original version opened in 1982 at New York City's Palsson's Supper Club and ran for an astounding 2,332 performances. Over the years, the show has been rewritten more than a dozen times to include spoofs of newer shows. The shows many iterations have been performed in more than 200 U.S. cities as well as countries around the world, from England to Japan.

The show is performed in cabaret style, with different segments making light of different show tunes, characters, and plots of new, long-running, and recently revived Broadway shows. Musicals are its main focus; it has parodied such shows as Wicked, Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Hairspray, and Rent. But it also lampoons performers and creatives such as Julie Andrews, Carol Channing, Kristin Chenoweth, Harvey Fierstein, Whoopi Goldberg, Angela Lansbury, Patti LuPone, Stephen Sondheim, Idina Menzel, Julie Taymor, and Bernadette Peters.

The 2012 version of Forbidden Broadway features parodies of such musicals as Newsies, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, Ghost, Evita, Porgy and Bess, The Book of Mormon, and even plays like Other Desert Cities, End of the Rainbow, and Clybourne Park. Get your Forbidden Broadway tickets today to see your favorite Broadway shows in a whole new light!
