Beauty and The Beast Schedule
About the Show:
Dubbed a "tale as old as time," Beauty and the Beast is surely one of the most cherished stories ever. Disney's 1991 animated version captured the hearts of a generation, and the subsequent 1994 Broadway musical production brought the magic to the stage. It thrived on Broadway, playing over 5,000 performances from 1994 to 2007, and subsequent national tours and foreign productions have also encountered great success. Seven new songs were added to the stage musical, including Gaston's ego-centric "Me," Belle"s and Maurice's touching duet "No Matter What," and the show-stopping ballads "Home" and "If I Can't Love Her." These selections combined with classics like "Something There," "Be Our Guest" and the beloved title song create a true masterpiece of a score. The stage version also features several impressive dance numbers that recreate such elaborate scenes as "Gaston" and "Be Our Guest." Beauty and the Beast truly has something for everyone: touching moments, impressive choreography, and infectious melodies that keep audiences singing for weeks. Check out the Beauty and the Beast schedule to find out when you can see this perennial favorite in a city near you.
An old beggar woman stumbles up to a beautiful castle asking for shelter from the cold. The proud, young prince turns the old woman away and she reveals herself to be an enchantress. For his cruelty, she turns him into a hideous beast and his servants into various household objects. She gives him a rose and tells him that if he can not find someone to love and earn their love in return before the last petal falls, he and his servants will be cursed forever.
Years later, a beautiful, young woman named Belle travels through her town with her face, as always, in a book. She is not like the other villagers who simply go through the motions of daily life, and they regard her as odd. Belle catches the attention of the chauvinistic hunter and town hero, Gaston, who proposes to her. When she denies him, he vows to make her his, one way or another. Later, Belle's father, the inventor Maurice, sets out hoping that his latest invention will win him the cash prize at a fair a few miles away. When he gets lost in the woods and is attacked by wolves, he is saved by the mysterious Beast and taken to his castle. When Belle begins to fear that something has happened to him, she sets out to the castle, meets the formidable Beast, and makes a deal to take her father's place in the castle forever if he agrees to let him go.
Hardened by years of solitude, the Beast struggles to grow closer to Belle but can't seem to soften his rough approach. Meanwhile, Belle finds solace in the comforting arms of the castle's other residents, including the motherly teapot Mrs. Potts, the fastidious clock Cogsworth, and the smooth-talking candelabra Lumiere. With the help of the servants, Beast and Belle manage to share a tender moment in Belles' favorite room, the library, and she begins to see something in the Beast that she couldn't see before. Back at the village, the townspeople assume that Maurice's pleas for help are the rantings of a madman, and Gaston hatches up a plan to lock him away until Belle agrees to be his wife. Can Belle save her father without pledging herself to the goonish Gaston? Will she be able to discover the man beneath the Beast?
