Like a wandering minstrel of olden times, Andrew Bird is the rare musician who offers technical virtuosity, expert storytelling and a flare for the unusual. Trained as a four-year-old in the Japanese Suzuki method of violin instruction which focuses on developing a child’s heart using beautiful music, Bird’s lessons have clearly penetrated his later work. The Suzuki Method emphasizes music education at an early age - although Bird is considered young by most, his sound is much more developed beyond his years.
Bird first came to prominence on Squirrel Nut Zippers' first album Hot and later as the front man for Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire. One of Bird’s most prophetic moments came when his band couldn’t make it to a gig and his now trademark one man show came into existence. His first two solo albums were released on Ani DiFranco's Righteous Babe Records label where Bird developed his more indie-rock sound. Without his backing band, Bird made use of loop pedals and a variety of instruments including the guitar and glockenspeil. Fans who have attended Andrew Bird tour dates have stood in awe at Bird’s awesome ability to recreate the sound of a full band using pedals and playing multiple instruments.
Fans picking up Andrew Bird tickets will see his latest album Break It Yourself performed live alongside a couple of band mates to help flesh out the album’s layered textures. Rolling Stone Magazine gave the album 3.5 stars stating, "Over a nearly 20-year career, Chicago singer, songwriter and violinist Andrew Bird has built a rep as one of indie rock's most beguiling light touches – a dude who makes Jeff Tweedy look like a Nordic death-metal pyro. Fusing elements of jazz, Celtic folk and chamber pop while softly talk-singing – or whistling – tunes with titles like "Scythian Empires," he might be gratingly pretentious, if he wasn't so unobtrusively amiable." With a palette of genres ranging from folk, swing and jazz to zydeco to choose from, you won’t want to miss Andrew Bird tour dates in your area!
