Today, Tennis has four major tournaments, called the "Grand Slam tournaments," or the Majors, which draw the most attention from tennis players and fans alike. These major tournaments are, chronologically throughout the year, the Australian Open, played on hard courts; the French Open, played on red clay courts; the famous Wimbledon, played on grass courts; and the US Open, played on hard courts. These tennis tournaments each include 128 players per gender, including 32 who are seeded, others who rank in the world’s top 100 qualifiers and others who receive invitations through wild cards.

But in addition to the major tournaments, there are or course a number of tennis tournaments on the ATP tour that feature a chance to see the best players in the game live with your own set of tickets for a tennis tournament. Other professional tennis tournaments include The BNP Paribas Open, The Sony Open, The Davis Cup, Champions Tennis Series, Rogers Cup, ATP World Tour Masters and the Western & Southern Cincinnati Tennis Masters, among others. A Brief History of Tennis

Tennis is a great sport to be interested in, and tennis tickets get a lot of attention. It has all the class of golf, but a lot more action! It is popular in many countries, including the US, UK, France, Australia, and others, and is played and watched by millions of people. The modern tennis game originated in Birmingham, England, in the late 19th century, and the rules have not changed much since its inception. Before that, however, were the sport’s predecessors. Historians believe that the game’s origin was in 12th century France, when people hit the ball with their hands, and evolved overtime, including the introduction of the racquet in the 16th century. Today, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) organizes the worldwide tennis men's tour. The women's professional tennis tour is organized by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).

The most successful male Tennis player is the Swiss Roger Federer, who holds 17 Grand Slam titles. He has reached each Grand Slam Final at least five times, the all-time record. He has held the world number one position for a record 302 weeks overall, and is currently ranked number three. The most successful all-time female player is the Australian Margaret Court, who won 24 Grand Slam titles during her career in the 1960s and 70s. She also won 19 women’s doubles and 21 mixed doubles titles, giving her a record 64 Major titles overall. The most successful female player still playing today is Serena Williams, who is currently ranked number one. She is the only female player to have won over $50M in prize money, and has 32 total Major titles, seventh on the all-time list.

Derived from the Ancient Greek word, Sphairistikè (literally "the art of playing ball"), tennis has grown into a glittering series of contests fought out by some of the world's fittest sportsmen.
