About the Show:

The Elephant Man premiered on Broadway in 1979, the lead role being played by notable actors like David Schofield, David Bowie, Bruce Davison, and Mark Hamill. The play is interesting because no prosthetic makeup is used to depict Joseph Merrick, but rather the actors embody his deformity through physical gestures instead. The Elephant Man was revived in 2002 on Broadway, starring Billy Crudup (Almost Famous; Watchmen) and Kate Burton (Grey’s Anatomy). Recent productions starred Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook; American Hustle) and Patricia Clarkson (The Green Mile; Shutter Island).
