Newsies - The Musical Schedule
Newsies - The Musical is based on the 1992 Disney musical film of the same name, which is, in turn, based on the true story of the New York newsboy strike of 1899. The plot is very similar to the movie, and many of the original songs are retained, including "Santa Fe," "Carrying the Banner," "The World Will Know," "King of New York," and "Seize the Day." The stage version has added a character, a female reporter and romantic interest for Jack, the lead newsboy. Though the original film premiered to less-than-enthusiastic reviews and unimpressive box office receipts, VHS and DVD releases and repeat showings on the Disney Channel have gained it a loyal following. Now, fans can experience the high-energy dance numbers and inspirational story onstage. Order your Newsies tickets today to catch this cult classic show live!
In 1899 New York City, thousands of orphaned boys live in lodging houses and work as newsboys. One day, 17-year-old Jack "Cowboy" Kelly, who works selling newspapers for Joseph Pulitzer, meets David Jacobs, a boy who has left school to help his family while his father is out of work with a broken arm. David's little brother Les also joins the ranks of the Newsies, and Jack believes his cute, young look will help to sell more papers. When the price of newspapers is raised one tenth of a cent by Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hurst, the newsies fear that they will not be able to shoulder the added cost. So Jack organizes a strike. Their cause gains a great following and the attention of a striking female reporter. Order your Newsies tickets today to see this tale of bravery and justice unfold.
