At once time the lead guitarist of Pink Floyd, David Gimour has a career that has spanned over 50 years and David Gilmour tickets have always been highly sought-after. After a few early, unsuccessful attempts to break into the music industry, Gilmour was recruited into Pink Floyd in 1967 to act as a second guitarist to complement the increasingly erratic Syd Barrett. Gilmour later took over for Barrett completely after the latter left the band in 1968. Once Barrett left, Gilmour also sang most of the vocals on Pink Floyd songs, with occasional lead vocals from Roger Waters and Rick Wright.
Throughout the 1970s, Gilmour continued to contribute to the band but his relationship with Waters would deteriorate until Waters left the band in 1985. During the decade, he began exploring a side solo career with the release of David Gilmour in 1978, of which a song originally written for the album, "Comfortably Numb," was instead transferred to Floyd's The Wall. Gilmour would produce a second solo album during his time in Pink Floyd, About Face, which was released in 1984.
After Waters left the band in 1985, Gilmour took over the group's creative direction. However, Pink Floyd would only produce two more albums before breaking up in 1995, A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) and The Division Bell (1994). A brief reunion of the band in the 2010s would result in a final album, The Endless River (2014). Since Floyd broke up the first time, Gilmour has been infrequently active in recording. He released two live albums in 2002, 2007, and 2008; a collaborative album in 2010 with The Orbs; and a live album in 2008. He has produced two studio albums since 1995, On an Island (2006) and Rattle That Lock (2015). He has also toured to support the albums, with the "On an Island Tour" in 2006 and the "Rattle That Lock Tour" in 2015 and 2016.
