About Winnipeg Jets

After a long hiatus from the NHL, the Winnipeg Jets are back in Manitoba and fans are going crazy. Another NHL team in Canada is always a good thing for fans, so check out the team and watch all the fun in person. With the Thrashers moving to Winnipeg, the hunt for Winnipeg Jets tickets is on! Many fans buying Winnipeg Jets hockey tickets right now remember the team from their first stay in the NHL from 1972 - 1996. In '96 the team was moved to Arizona and became the Phoenix Coyotes. Now hockey fans all over Manitoba are looking for cheap Jets hockey tickets in Canada for the opportunity to watch the newest NHL team in person.

First of the move from Atlanta to Winnipeg was first rumored on May 20, 2011, however both the NHL and True North denied them. The move was made official on June 21, however a name for the relocated hockey team was not announced at that time. It was revealed that it cost $170 million for True North Sports and Entertainment to buy the Winnipeg Jets, which included a $60 million relocation fee for the NHL. The NHL formally approved the move of the Thrashers to Winnipeg on June 21, 2011. The Atlanta Thrashers were formed as an expansion team in 1997 after the Atlanta Flames moved to Calgary. Prior to joining the NHL, the Winnipeg Jets played for the original WHA hockey league. The Winnipeg Jets made headlines in 1972, when they offered the NHL's Bobby Hull, arguably the most popular player at the time, $1 million dollars to play for the Jets in the World Hockey Association, a sum considered insane at the time. The Jets originally adopted the name of the Jets who played hockey in the Western Canada Hockey League.

Hit up the The Forks, and the Forks Market in Winnipeg and then check out a game of professional hockey! The strength of fan support for the Winnipeg Jets can be seen in the incredible sales of Winnipeg Jets season tickets as the team move was being announced. True North Sports originally game precedence to hockey fans with tickets for the Manitoba Moose to buy tickets. Those tickets quickly sold out, and the team again went on to sell out of season tickets once they were made available to the general public. The Jets cut off access to the waiting list for Jets season tickets after the list exceeded 8,000 names.

The Winnipeg Jets hockey team play home games at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, a cutting edge venue in downtown Winnipeg with a total capacity of 15,015 for hockey games. True North Entertainment owns the 440,000 MTS Centre, which replaced the old Winnipeg Arena.
