About the Allman Brothers

The Allman Brothers band was formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman (slide guitar and lead guitar) and Gregg Allman (vocals, organ, songwriting), with Dickey Betts (lead guitar, vocals, songwriting), Berry Oakley (bass guitar), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums). Their now legendary Southern rock sound features a mix of blues, jazz, and country music that has become a staple of American rock radio. Their fabled stage show finds the band jamming out on mind-blowing long-form improvisations and instrumentals that make Allman Brothers tickets a rare delicacy for the music connoisseur. In 1971 the band released At Filmore East which was recorded live and features extended versions of In Memory of Elizabeth Reed and Whipping Post and is considered one of the best live albums ever made. As one of the last bands to play the historic venue before it closed in 1971, Greg Allman once recalled playing all night and never once realizing that the sun had come up until the doors opened and he saw daylight pouring in. The Allman Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and Rolling Stone ranked them 52nd on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004. After the deaths of group leader Duane Allman and bassist Berry Oakley in motorcycle accidents and some personnel changes over the years, including the addition of Derek Trucks, the nephew of their original drummer, the Allman Brothers are ready to tour for another 41 years.
