Thievery Corporation is a DJ duo from Washington, DC and was created by Rob Garza and Eric Hilton. The two are also supported by musicians Rob Myers, Frank Mitchell, Jeff Franca, and Ashish Vyas. Their music is a combination of dub, acid jazz, reggae, Indian classical, Middle Eastern music, and Brazilian music. Along with different styles of music, Thievery Corporation also incorporates different languages in their lyrics including English, Spanish, French, Persian, Portuguese, Romanian, and Hindi.
Garza and Hilton came together in the summer of 1995 at the Eighteenth Street Lounge in Washington, DC. Hilton was a co-owner of the lounge. The two shared a love for the same style music as well as a love for the club life. They began creating music in the studio and started their own record label, Eighteenth Street Longue Music.
In 1997 they released their debut album, Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. In 2006 Thievery Corporation began touring all over the United States. They performed at Lollapalooza, an annual music festival created by Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction. Thievery Corporation released their fifth studio album, Radio Retaliation, in September of 2008 and it was nominated Best Recording Package in the Grammys. They are still creating and experimenting with different types of music and recordings.
Thievery Corporation is on tour now through September and will also be performing at Lollapalooza this year. Tickets are on sale now for their tour as well as for Lollapalooza. Get your tickets to see Thievery Corporation today!
