WWE, at the time the WWF, had its inaugural WrestleMania event in 1985 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Over 19,000 people attended and millions watched it at home on pay-per-view. Headlining the event on March 31st was a team match between Mr. T and Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper and Paul Ornoff where Hulk Hogan and Mr. T took home the victory. The brainchild of Vince McMahon, WrestleMania was a few years in the making. By advertising on MTV, hosting multiple wrestling events on the same network in the early 1980’s, and being endorsed by celebrities such as Cyndi Lauper and Muhammad Ali, WrestleMania had an abundance of advertising before the main event. After all of the hype, WrestleMania skyrocketed to fame, and is still selling out arenas year after year. Every year hundreds of fans flock to Ticket Liquidator to check out WrestleMania ticket prices. A couple of years after the first WrestleMania, at WrestleMania III, Hulk Hogan famously defeated Andre the Giant with a seemingly impossible body slam. By taking down the seven-foot four-inch, undefeated wrestler, Hulk Hogan made this match one of the best in WrestleMania history.
Many wrestlers that are household names today have come from this competition. Starting with Mr. T and Hulk Hogan in the first event, to André the Giant, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, these wrestlers are some of the most famous from the entire history of the industry. Arguably, the ultimate champion of WrestleMania, however, is The Undertaker. With a winning streak of 21-0, he could be considered one of the best in WrestleMania history. With so many stars emerging from these events, it is no mystery why these men and women are so well known both inside and outside the professional wrestling world.
WrestleMania is by far the most successful and longest-running professional wrestling event in the world. Also called "The Granddaddy of Them All," "The Grandest Stage of Them All" and "The Showcase of the Immortals," this event, one of the "Big Four" WWE events of the year (along with Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series), held in late March or early April, draws audiences of tens of thousands of people.
The original WrestleMania debuted in 1985 under the World Wrestling Federation in Madison Square Garden, NYC, pitting Hulk Hogan and Mr. T against Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff. Ever since then, WrestleMania has become one of the most anticipated wrestling events of the year. Wrestling stars like Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Steve Austin, The Rock, and Triple H owe their stardom to their WrestleMania matches.
In addition to an all star group of wrestlers, WrestleMania has also seen its fair share of guest celebrities including: Muhammad Ali, Mr. T, Alice Cooper, Lawrence Taylor, Pam Anderson, Mike Tyson, Donald Trump, Floyd "Money" Mayweather, Snoop Dogg and more. So if you’d like to see the most exciting wrestling event of your life, and maybe catch a few famous faces, grab yourself some WrestleMania tickets today!
