About Alejandra Guzmán

Born in the late 60's, Alejandra Guzmán is one of Mexico's more daring and controversial singers in addition to her enormous amount of talent. Though she is commercially successful, her career has been haunted by drama. From a miscarriage, issues with alcohol and drugs, and a publicly-difficult marriage, Guzmán has dealt with the harshness of the spotlight. However, she has also countered this scandal with her success as a singer. In 2002, she won the Latin Grammy for the Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for her album Soy. Guzmán has also dealt with personal struggles later in her career. Most notably, her breast cancer diagnosis in 2007 that she battled and won.

She is known as the "Queen of Mexican Rock" and "Bad Girl of Latin Pop." Her notorious reputation is due to her personal life but also her explicit lyrics and scandalous stage shows. She demonstrates that sex sells in Mexican pop music. Though her life has settled since the diagnosis, she has still had her share of tabloid drama that follows her. Her most recent album A + No Poder was semi-successful, and she helped produce and write most of the tracks.
