Plot Synopsis:

Hedwig stands on stage and tells the story of Hansel, an effeminate East German guy who likes philosophy and rock 'n' roll. Stuck in East Berlin, he meets and falls in love with U.S. soldier Luther Robinson. They want to get married to get Hansel out with Luther, but in order to form a legal union, Hansel undergoes a sex change operation. The procedure is botched, but Hansel, who has taken his mother's name and passport, goes to live with Luther in Kansas. On their first anniversary, Luther leaves Hedwig for a man; later that day, the Berlin wall comes down, leaving Hedwig with nothing to show for her sacrifices.

In order to heal from her trauma, Hedwig forms a rock band made up of Korean-born Army wives and befriends a shy, Christian teenager named Tommy. They write songs together and Hedwig gives him the stage name "Tommy Gnosis," but he soon leaves her to become a wildly successful rock star. Hedwig is forced to play small gigs to support herself while following Tommy's tour around the country. What fate awaits this tragic figure? Order your Hedwig and the Angry Inch tickets now to see this heartbreaking story play out.
