The BET (Black Entertainment Television) Awards were established in 2001 to celebrate African Americans and other minorities’ contributions in music, acting, sports and other entertainment over the previous year. The annual award show is broadcast live on the BET network. The first BET awards were held at the Paris resort on the Las Vegas Strip in 2001.
