About the Show:

Young Frankenstein is a musical based on the iconic 1974 comedy film of the same name. Mel Brooks (The Producers, Blazing Saddles), co-writer and director of the film, also wrote the music and lyrics for the musical and wrote the book along with Thomas Meehan. The storyline of the film is closely followed, with a few gags added or extended, and songs interspersed throughout. Some of the most memorable numbers include "Please Don't Touch Me," "Puttin' on the Ritz" (written by Irving Berlin) and "Deep Love."

Young Frankenstein premiered on Broadway on November 8, 2007 and closed on January 4, 2009, having played a respectable 485 performances. The opening night cast included Roger Bart (You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Disney's Hercules), Megan Mullally (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, TV's Will & Grace), Christopher Fitzgerald (Wicked, Finian's Rainbow), Sutton Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes), and Andrea Martin (My Favorite Year, Fiddler on the Roof). National tours have followed. Grab some Young Frankenstein tickets today to this musical version of a hilarious classic.

Review
"Young Frankenstein is a treat for both fans of the movie and Broadway devotees alike. It is one of the best hybrids of truly great source material and complementary musical features that I have ever seen. With well-written songs featuring considerable vocal talent, bits of finely tuned physical comedy, lavish dance numbers, and the comedy of Mel Brooks, what's not to love?" Read the full review >>

Plot Synopsis:

In 1934 Transylvania Heights, the villagers celebrate the death of the mad scientist Dr. Victor von Frankenstein. Meanwhile, his grandson, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced "Fronkensteen"), is the Dean of Anatomy at Johns, Miriam, and Anthony Hopkins School of Medicine. Word reaches him of his grandfather's death, and though he is ashamed of his heritage, he travels to Transylvania Heights to deal with his inherited castle. His emotionally (and physically) distant fiancee, Elizabeth, sees him off.

Upon his arrival, Fredrick meets hunchback Igor (pronounced "Eye-gore"), grandson of Victor's assistant. He and the beautiful lab assistant, Inga, vow to help him in his work. Once at the castle, Fredrick also meets the intimidating Frau Blucher, the sound of whose name spooks the horses. When Fredrick has a dream that his grandfather and other ancestors want him to create a monster, he finds the secret laboratory by following the eerie violin music. With his assistants, he digs up a corpse with the intention of trying to re-animate it.

Fredrick sends Igor to find a good brain for the Monster, but he loses it and replaces it with another. Once Fredrick animates the creature, he goes on a rampage, soon finding out that Igor had gotten the wrong brain. The town's inspector brings the townspeople to investigate in the guise of a welcome wagon. While they try to stall them, Frau Blucher secretly releases the Monster, who stomps away alone.

Everyone goes out in search for the Monster, each with their own tactic. When Fredrick finds him, he tames him by promising him fame and adoration. But when his stage show ends in strobe lights that scare him, he goes on another rampage. A surprise visit by Elizabeth shakes things up, especially for the Monster, who kidnaps her. When the town has had enough of the havoc caused by his creature, they bring Fredrick to the gallows. Order your Young Frankenstein tickets today to see if the Monster can ever be tamed and how each character's story plays out.
