Washington Redskins Season Outlook

Washington Redskins Tickets

As one of the proudest NFL franchises in the league, the Washington Redskins always have one of the most hostile environments in all of sports. Opposing teams rarely look forward to traveling to FedExField in Landover, Maryland to take on the Redskins. And if you want a difficult ticket to find then you won't find a tougher one than Redskins tickets. In the 2009 - 2010 season, Jason Campbell is back at the quarterback position and fans are hoping this is the year he puts it all together. The 27-year-old QB has shown he has the tools to be an effective leader, however has yet to do it consistently. Campbell has been in the league five years, but this is the first time with the same coach as the previous year. With another year of Campbell and Head Coach Jim Zorn working together, the team should be able to score a lot more points.

The Redskins got of to a fantastic start in 2008, going 4-1 the first five weeks, however they were unable to keep up their torrid pace and faltered down the stretch. Its hard in the NFC East, where you have to deal with the Cowboys [tickets], Giants [tickets] and Eagles [tickets]. But this team showed it could hang last year, and with most of the same core back along with a few major upgrades, they will be in very good shape to make a run in the East. They have had success in recent years, making it to the NFL playoffs in 2005 and 2007.

The Redskins were able to nab one of the biggest free-agent names on the market when they acquired all-pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth from the Tennessee Titans. Haynesworth showed what he could do during the Titans incredible run last year and was a major pickup for Washington football. This will be the second year for Redskins ticket holder to begin adapting to life without Hall of Fame Coach Joe Gibbs. Zorn has had an up and down career so far for the Skins, however with most of his coaching staff back expect him to be comfortable.

Running back and Pro Bowler Clinton Portis had more than his share of touches last year, and fans with Redskins tickets expect him to be a potent force again this year. Last year he had 1,487 yards on a total of 342 carries and he has show that he is one of the better backs in football and can be counted on to block when he has to. Add to Portis the vary capable Ladell Betts and the Redskins running game can hang with the best in the NFL.

Receiver Chris Cooley was selected to the Pro Bowl last season after completing 83 catches with a total of 849 yards. Santana Moss is back again and will definitely be doing his part to give the Washington Redskins a chance to win. You can also pencil in Antwaan Ranfle El to get his share of catches. Any Redskins ticket holder recalls the team had a ton of young receivers last year who could not get much going. Look for some of those players, notably Devin Thomas, Fred Davis and Malcolm Kelly, to make a jump in their second year in the NFL.

The experienced offensive line is definitely going to be a big help as Campbell tries to march down the field. Derrick Dockery is back with the team after a stint in Buffalo and provides some youth the the core. Chris Samuels has been one of the best tackles in the league for years. Stephon Heyer will be stepping in a right tackle, while Casey Rabach will be the starting center. This is a veteran core that will have its hands full protecting Campbell. However this group knows how to win and will definitely be keeping this team in the game.

2009 Redskins defense preview

The big news for Redskins fans was the addition of Albert Haynesworth. Haynesworth was signed for seven years for $100 million. As a monster of a player, he will definitely help the defensive corps get to the opposing QB more times this year. With a talent like that next to him, end Andre Carter is just about sure to improve on his sack total from last year, along with his mirror Brian Orakpo, a rookie from Texas. Tackles Cornelius Griffin, Anthony Montgomery and Kedric Golston will pitch in to stop opponents from advancing. And look for Phillip Daniels to bounce back from knee surgery and make some noise this year.

The Redskins defense centers around London Fletcher, who looks like he could be the best hes ever been in his 11 years in the league. He had a stellar year last season and has always had an uncanny ability to know where the ball is headed. The Redskins also brought in DeAngelo Hall from the Raiders. DeAngelo was given a six-year deal that gives a 'Skins a very good cornerback for the foreseeable future. Baring injury, Redskins ticket holders can count on him getting more than one interception this year. And the more observant Redskins fans know the free safety Laron Landry is a star in the making. One fact that does not help the Redskins is that they are in one of, if not the, toughest divisions in the league. The NFC East is where the big dogs come to play, and the Eagles, Giants and Cowboys are going to make life very difficult for the 'Skins. However this was a good team last year and got some much needed help during the off-season, so it could be a very good year for the Washington Redskins.

Some Washington Redskins history:

Considering the enormity of their DC area fan base, it's hard to believe that the Redskins began life playing at Braves Field in Boston, and then moved to Fenway Park. Bostonian apathy led the owner, George Preston Marshall, to move the team to Washington D.C., and the Redskins blossomed, posting ten consecutive winning records between 1936 and 1945. The team featured a number of stars, including quarterback Sammy Baugh, who led the league in passing six times, punting five times, and interceptions once.

Washington's success then dried up for several years, but their stature began to rise again when they made Super Bowl XL in 1973, losing to the Miami Dolphins. The revival was completed when Joe Gibbs was named coach in 1981. He delivered ten winning records in twelve years, eight playoff appearances, and three Super Bowl championships, selling vast amounts of Redskins playoff tickets in the process. Key players such as quarterbacks Joe Theisman and Mark Rypien, running back Earnest Byner, and wide receiver Art Monk led the team's potent attack.
