2014 Blue Jays Outlook

Derailed by injuries, the Toronto Blue Jays disappointed in 2013, finishing in last place in the AL East with a 74-88 record. Now healthy in 2014, the Blue Jays are poised to make a run at the AL East crown in 2014, and do exactly what the Boston Red Sox did -- go from worst to first.

A year after making two blockbuster trades, the Blue Jays were quiet during baseball's offseason. Toronto lost J.P. Arencibia, Josh Johnson and a handful of others through free agency. Toronto signed catcher Dioner Navarro, who does represent a significant upgrade over Toronto's catchers in 2013.

Toronto's offense should be one of the best in the American League. With Jose Bautistia, Jose Reyes, Edwin Encarnacion, Brett Lawrie, and Melky Cabrera, the Jays should be among the league leaders in runs scored -- provided everyone stays healthy.

Toronto will also need its starting pitchers to remain healthy. R.A. Dickey and Brandon Morrow headline the rotation, but Dickey struggled in his transition to the American League, while Morrow was plagued by an elbow injury. Now in 2014, the duo of righthanded pitchers have high hopes, and should lead what could be a very good rotation in Toronto. Blue Jays fans could watch prospect Marcus Stroman crack the rotation this season.Baseball America ranked Stroman as baseball's 55th-best prospect -- and the right handed prospect offers tremendous upside.
