About the show:First produced off-Broadway in 1971, John Guare's The House of Blue Leaves was revived once in 1986. The 1986 revival was very successful and starred Swoosie Kurtz, who won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress, John Mahoney, who won the Tony for Best Featured Actor, Stockard Channing (nominated for a Tony), Danny Aiello, and Ben Stiller in his stage debut (as son Ronnie). The 2011 production was also star-studded, featuring movie star Ben Stiller (Meet the Parents) and Emmy winner Edie Falco (The Sopranos). Plot Synopsis:The setting: Sunnyside, Queens, on the day in 1965 when Pope Paul VI visited New York City. Zookeeper Artie Shaughnessy dreams of being a famous songwriter while he struggles with his marriage to his schizophrenic wife, aptly named Bananas, and his affair with his spunky neighbor, Bunny. Bunny concocts a scheme to ship Bananas off to the mental hospital and move to Hollywood where Artie can realize his show business dreams in partnership with childhood friend Billy Einhorn, who is now a film director. The cast of characters is rounded out by Artie's troubled son, a deaf film star, and a trio of spirited nuns.
