Piano rock on the radio? When The Fray does piano rock, it sounds like nothing but power. This Grammy nominated group has become virtual superstars over night- why? Because The Fray is original and who else can incite intense emotion with a piano, we're thinking Elton John & Billy Joel. Bumping into each other at a local bookstore in Denver, CO, old school buddies Isaac Slade and Joe King began a two man jam band that expended quickly. The two liked what they heard and added a few more significant players to the mix including drummer Ben Wysocki, guitarist David Welsh and Slades younger brother Caleb who was later asked to leave. The conflict would result in The Fray's first charting single "Over My Head (Cable Car)." The Fray, who have been compared to bands like U2 and 3 Doors Down got their name from a suggestion bowl during a graduation party. It was local airplay on KTCL radio that increased the band's exposure, when "Over My Head" played on radio waves. After being voted "Best New Band" by a local Denver newspaper, The Fray was signed to Epic Records. Their debut album, How to Save a Life was released in 2005, the title track off of the album has been featured as the theme song on Grey's Anatomy and an epsiode of Scrubs; The single hit the number one spot on US Adult contemporary charts. The Fray tickets would soon go on sale for a The Fray tour with Weezer and then Ben Folds Five (now Ben Folds). To promote How to Save a Life The Fray performed on shows like The Late Show with David Letterman, Rove Live and The Tonight Show. After a string of The Fray tours, The Fray was nominated for the Grammy Awards Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "How to Save a Life" and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "Over My Head (Cable Car)" - not bad for thier first album huh? Their most recent self-titled album was released in February, 2009. The single "You Found Me" would find fans scrambling for The Fray concert tickets and now that they're on tour, The fray tickets are becoming harder and harder to find. So pick up your cheap The Fray tickets here and listen to "How to Save a Life" live. |
