The Cure Tickets

Recently The Cure jumped on the bandwagon of bands playing their classic albums in their entirety, only they did it times three. They must have had a blast doing it because all of a sudden they're taking the show on the road. Starting on November 15th, Robert Smith and The Cure wil be playing Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds and Faith in full on tour dates in England, New York and Los Angeles. Gotta luv them English, huh? They went totally insane in the late-70s with Punk Rock, and then they turned it into New Wave when they tired of spiky hair and bondage trousers. The Cure tickets weren't exactly selling like wildfire at this point, but things were to change, once the kids got a clue. For a select few trendsetters, the weirdness of Punk and the buzz of New Wave were to fuse and create a third creature - a bizarre hybrid from the depths of the stinking carcass that was a nation in rotten decline and facing its winter of discontent - 1978. A group of oddballs who'd been making music together for a couple of years finally got their break, and the entity known as The Cure was born, amid a mess of gloomy lyrics and ponderous tunes, many of which seemed to amplify and distort the general sense of despondency and hopelessness permeating the British public.

Tickets to The Cure concerts slowly started to sell, as people turned to the grey skies and constant drizzle from Robert Smith's muse. The gothic architecture of cities like Manchester and London were too-well suited to this sound, and by 1982 things had not only cheered up a lot, but people had adopted the "Robert Smith look" wholesale. Every Art and Sociology department in the land was half-packed with Smith clones, all anxious to project that gargoyle-solid-etched-in-mascara expression to those who beheld them. All anxious to buy The Cure tickets and see this chap who'd literally turned himself into a walking TV set - and a horror film was surely showing. The Cure tickets were by then as mainstream as any other, and the band enjoyed fame in the true sense. By the mid to late-80s, The Cure had cemented themselves as a very credible entity in British alternative rock, and the whole argument over whether they were Goths or not exploded.
