About the Show:Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story is one of the first jukebox musicals (shows that feature songs by specific artists rather than an original score). Holly's hits ("Peggy Sue," "That'll Be The Day") are presented with songs from other artists of the day like Ritchie Valens ("La Bamba"), The Big Bopper ("Chantilly Lace"), Chuck Berry ("Johnny B. Goode"), and Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers ("Why Do Fools Fall in Love") throughout the story of Holly's life and career. The show premiered in London's West End in 1989 (where it ran for over 5,000 performances), on Broadway in 1990, and has toured extensively in the UK, The United States, and many other countries. Order your Buddy tickets today to see the story of this incredibly influential early rocker while enjoying the biggest hits of his era. Plot Synopsis:Buddy Holly is an aspiring country singer in Lubbock, Texas. Along with his two friends, Jerry and Joe (The Crickets), he begins to experiment with a new style of music called rock 'n' roll. The boys struggle in Texas and then in Nashville, where record producers want them to record country and western music. When Buddy almost gets in a physical fight with a producer, he ends his relationship with the company. But a local DJ connects him with an up-and-coming producer who agrees to let him make his music however he wants. From there, Buddy has a string of hits, including "That'll Be the Day" and "Peggy Sue." Upon their newfound success, The Crickets move to New York City, where Buddy meets and quickly marries record publisher employee Maria Elena Santiago. When Buddy breaks up with the Crickets, he starts a solo career and headlines the 1959 "Winter Dance Party." After a 1959 concert in Iowa, Buddy boards a plane with fellow stars the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens, the flight of which is cut short when the plane crashes, tragically ending their promising careers.
