2014 Rays Outlook

The Tampa Bay Rays returned to the playoffs in 2013, and advanced to the ALDS before losing to the eventual World Series champion Boston Red Sox. Now in 2014, manager Joe Maddon and Tampa Bay have their sights set on headed back to the World Series and claiming the franchise's first-ever World Series title.

Many experts and industry personnel alike expected the Rays to trade left-handed ace David Price this offseason, as the former Vanderbilt Commodore has just two seasons remaining before he becomes a free agent. Tampa Bay isn't likely to offer as much as other teams will once Price hits free agency, and consequently, many expected Tampa Bay to trade Price and restock with young, cheaper talent. Instead, the Rays kept Price, and the former Cy Young winner will anchor Tampa Bay's rotation in 2014.

Tampa Bay's lineup will once again be anchored by perennial MVP candidate Evan Longoria. Longoria is one of baseball's all-around third baseman, providing Gold Glove quality defense, as well as a dangerous bat. Wil Myerrs enters his second season in 2014, and could emerge as one of baseball's premiere corner outfielders.
