The Ladies Professional Golf Association or LPGA is a U.S. organization specifically for female professional golfers. Featuring world-class athletes up close and personal, LPGA tickets grant you access to an event like none other. The LPGA is most well known for the LPGA Tour, an event featuring a series of weekly golf tournaments running from February to December for female golfers from around the world. Although LPGAs exist in other countries, the American organization was the first and is the largest of its kind. LPGA tickets get you in to see the best female golfers in the world. Founded in 1950 by thirteen female golfers, the LPGA is now in its 64th season, making it the U.S.’s oldest continuing women’s professional sports organization. Major annual championships that occur during the LPGA tour are the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the Wegmans LPGA Championship, the U.S. Women’s Open, the Ricoh Women’s British Open, and the Evian Championship. Starting in 2011, the CME Group Titleholders Championship became the season-ending LPGA championship tournament and features three qualifying competitors that come from each official tour event during the season.

LPGA Events

In the first forty years of its existence, the LPGA Tour was dominated by mostly U.S. players, but within the past decade, non-American players have been besting their American counterparts in major championships. Most LPGA Tour events are held in the United States, but in the past, tournaments have been held in Mexico, Singapore, Canada, England, South Korea, Japan, and many other countries.

The LPGA Tour awards several prizes on a yearly basis but three are awarded based specifically on scoring over the course of the year. The first is the Rolex Player of the Year, which is based on points that are awarded for the top ten finishes during the year. Theses points awarded are doubled during the LPGA’s four major championships and at the season-ending Tour Championship and the player with the most points at the end of the season wins the award. Winners of this award in the past include Stacy Lewis (2012), Yani Tseng (2011), and Lorena Ochoa (2009). The second is the Vare Trophy, which is named for female golfer Glenna Collett-Vare. This trophy is awarded to the player with the lowest scoring average for the season. Recipients of this award include Inbee Park (2012), and Na Yeon Choi (2010).The final award is the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year award, name after one of the founders of the LPGA, Louise Suggs. This honor is awarded to the first-year player who scores the most points which are based on a player’s finish in a points competition. Past winners of this award include So Yeon Ryu (2012) and Hee Kyung Seo (2011). The LPGA also has an established Hall of Fame of Women’s Golf, which was created in 1951 and featured four charter members: Patty Berg, Betty Jameson, Louise Suggs, and Babe Zaharias. The Hall of Fame was inactive until 1967 when it moved to Augusta, Georgia and was renamed the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame. In 1998, it ended up being merged into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
